We all know how challenging it can be to eat well during this time of year. The weather’s getting warmer, Christmas is upon us, and our social calendars are filling up! Meaning there are many temptations to overindulge food and drink wise, resulting in a more relaxed approach to our health and fitness and the routine we work so hard on!
With all this in mind, we have some tips and tricks to ensure you enjoy the festive season, while staying on track and keeping on top of your health and fitness goals.
- Keep Hydrated
Make sure you are upping your water intake especially with the weather getting warmer! Drinking 2-3L per day is recommended - even more so when alcohol is involved. An easy way to get in 1L is by having it first thing in the morning, this will start off your day on the right foot.
- Get plenty of sleep
This time of year often means later nights than usual as you know you’re not having to get up for work! Make sure you’re getting your full 8 hours a night as it’s essential in feeling and looking your best.
- Eat a nutritious breakfast
As you may be eating out for dinner more so during the silly season, it’s important to eat a fulfilling and nutritious breakfast as this will reduce the urge to gorge on ‘unhealthy’ foods due to hunger. Breakfast will sustain you and line your stomach if alcohol is being consumed.
We suggest keeping our Nutrify overnight oats handy as they’re a great addition to your daily breakfast. They taste amazing and contain a good dose of protein and dietary fibre.
- Get it done early
Get your workout done early in the morning, whether this is a morning walk, workout class at the gym or a run with friends. This will leave no room to talk yourself out of the workout throughout the day, you’ll feel better for it!
- Keeping up your training routine
The hardest thing about getting into a routine is starting, so stay consistent and don’t compromise as you don’t want to start from the beginning again. Remember this is such a small part of your day that makes such a big impact on your mood and wellbeing, as exercise releases endorphins which brighten our mood and create a feel-good feeling!
These tips will ensure you are staying somewhat on track during the silly season, by creating balance you’re not restricting yourself completely and more importantly – also not rewinding all the hard work you’ve put in over the past year!
